Social Media and business - it's a whole new world out there

Social media is not new news in business, but it's surprising how many businesses see these amazing new tools as just another marketing channel rather than an amazing new tool to create dialogue directly with their customers.

The ability to listen and participate to whats being said in the cloud about themselves, their markets and what their customers want creates amazing opportunities.

No one wants to be spammed, think carefully on how you interact with all of those hard won connections. The power of community in social media can harm as quickly as it can deliver value. An engaged network spreads your message much further and faster than paid advertising.

Another interesting trend getting some air time is the power of staff using social media promote your business. Realising that everyone involved in your organisation has the ability to influence using social media opens up opportunity to integrate HR strategy with your brand's image.

To be successful though, managers (you know who you are) have to get behind initiatives in social media, empower those pesky gen Y's who understand how to maximise the tools, you might be surprised with the results.
